Third Frontier Annual ReportOhio’s Third Frontier (TFP) has had another outstanding year in its support of technology-based economic development for the state. Currently averaging nine new dollars brought into Ohio for every dollar spent on the program, the 2008 tally of funds attracted to Ohio reached $3.5 billion. The feat triples the original projected leverage capacity that the TFP targeted. As part of this very encouraging success story, more than 500 companies either were created, were attracted to Ohio, or were capitalized through TFP efforts. Among these companies, the average salary was nearly $68,000.

The Center for Advanced Polymer & Composite Engineering (CAPCE) has recently enhanced it state-of-the-art mechanical testing laboratory for evaluating biobased materials for applications in automotive and industrial markets. CAPCE is part of The Ohio State University (OSU) College of Engineering. Partially funded through the Ohio BioProducts Innovation Center (OBIC), CAPCE is a National Science Foundation (NSF) Industry/University Cooperative Research Center (IUCRC) that collaborates with OSU, University of Wisconsin, and Florida State University & industry partners.
